The 1:87 scale corresponds to the H0 scale that has been customary in the model train world since 1950. The H0 scale was introduced by Basset-Lowke in 1930 and money is the most common scale. Because the making of dioramas is often done in the model train world, there was also a need for true-to-life vehicles.
In the beginning, it was mainly model train manufacturers that brought plastic cars onto the market, usually no more than a representation. Later on, the models became more and more beautiful and natural models came out.
In recent years, however, the scale has also been discovered by model car collectors and manufacturers of traditional model cars and we have seen the range explode. Manufacturers such as Minichamps and Spark, active in the 1:18 and 1:43, now also have an extensive range of 1:87.
