Joop Donkervoort built the very first S7 in 1978, based on a kitcar concept from Colin Chapman. Because Chapman's kitcar in the Netherlands does not receive type approval, the chassis is adjusted by Donkervoort, a completely new car is created, the Donkervoort S7
After having built 140 pieces of the S7, Donkervoort continues with its own unique creation, the S8 (Super Eight). The factory moved from Tienhoven to Loosdrecht and the S8A is being developed and built here.
In 1988, the last reference to the S7 disappears and the D10 is released. In 1999, the Ford Zetec engine also disappears from the Donkervoort and the D20 is created in collaboration with Audi.
In the following years, Donkervoort slowly but surely grows into a serious car manufacturer with locations in Germany. The D8 GT wins the Dubai 24 hours in 2011 in the SP3-GT4 class.
Forty years after its foundation, Donkervoort has launched the Donkervoort D8 GTO-40 Anniversary, the crown on 40 years of Donkervoort history and an exclusive anniversary model with a length of 40 pieces.
