The first time the Peugeot family name was seen on an automobile was on a steam powered tricycle. However, this concept was soon abandoned and opted for the Panhard gasoline engine. In 1896 Armand Peugeot went its own way by separating itself from the family business with the establishment of "Société Anonyme des Automobieles Peugeot".
The years after the war are characterized by technological evolution, progressive designs and major failures, but Peugeot knows how to stand and incorporates Citroën and Opel in the ranks. With Opel, the Vauxhall now also falls under the wings of PSA. The Peugeot family currently holds only a 14% stake in the group, the remaining shares are held by the French state and Chinese investors.
