Renault F1 Team

Renault F1 Team

In 1977 Renault took part for the first time in Formula 1 with the RS01, the first F1 car with a turbo. At the wheel a Frenchman, Jean Pierre Jabouille. It would take until the 1979 season before the first victory was won by Jabouille for the French renstal. In 1986, Renault ceased its participation in Formula 1 as a constructor to turn the re-entry into Williams in 1989 as the engine supplier to Williams.

In 2002 the name Renault came back as a constructor when the team of Benetton was taken over by the French. In 2003, the Spanish driver Fernando Alonso won a race and thus the youngest driver ever to win a race. Alonso continued in 2005 and 2006 with the world championship for the manufacturers with the Renault, their first in history.

Then it went downhill with the team from Renault, Spionage and Crashgate put Flavio Briatore on a sidetrack and as a result of the scandals ING retired as a sponsor. In 2009, the team was bought by an investor who named it Lotus in 2010.

In 2015, the team will once again be in the hands of Renault, which will race in its own name again in the 2016 season. Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer are the drivers. In 2017 Magnussen is exchanged with Nico Hülkenberg and Palmer later by Sainz Jr.

In 2018 it will be announced that Daniel Ricciardo will not extend his contract with Red Bull and drive for the team, a shock that few people saw beforehand. The Sainz Jr, loaned to Renault, has to search for a seat again.
