Le Mans 24 hours 2018

The 86th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, won for the first time by Toyota with the Toyota TS050 Hybrid. Toyota has been fishing behind the net in recent years and was defeated by Porsche even in the final minutes of the race in 2016. In 2018 they were rewarded with the victory for the #8 car of Fernando Alsonso, Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima.

In the LMP2 class, the Oreca of G-Drive crossed the line first, however the car was disqualified after the race due to an adjustment in the filling system for the fuel that was not in the drawing. Also the sister car of TDS racing that was fueled with the same installation was disqualified.

The winner of the LMP2 class thus became the Signature Alpine Matmut by Nicolas Lapierre, Pierre Thiriet and André Negrão.

Porsche was the best in both the LMGTE-PRO and LMGTE-AM. By a bit of luck with the safety car, the # 92 quickly came to the lead, followed by the # 91 Porsche. Although the # 91 in the last part of the race was under pressure from the # 68 Ford GT, Porsche managed to score a 1-2 with the "Pink Pig" and "Rothmans" classic liveries. Belgian Laurens Vanthoor, with his victory in the LMGTE-PRO class, overclassed the performance of his brother Dries Vanthoor, Dries was the winner of the LMGTE-AM class the year before.
